This is my 19th bike, a 08 Gold Wing. I currently have a 06 Softail Harley, and I was in the market for a new touring bike. I have spent thousands at the Harley shop, (Last two bikes were Harleys) so I went in to look at a new Ultra Classic with a blank check in my pocket. After standing in the showroom for 20 minutes and being ignored, (one other customer in the store) my wife said, “we don't have to put up with this kind of attitude." We left and drove to Russellville Honda to look at Wings. We were met at the door by Earl Kirtley. I bought a new Wing within 30 minutes of shopping. It was such a refreshing experience dealing with Earl, (a guy who loves what he does) and everyone at Russellville Honda. I never felt any pressure or uneasiness at any time, unlike the feeling I had at the Harley shop. They thought they were doing me some favor selling me a Harley. After riding my Wing and looking back on the whole experience of buying my new bike, I can see why riders are trading in their Harleys for Gold Wings. About Us
As travelers head east on Interstate 40 through Russellville, the normally uneventful trip has been livened up a bit by a flashing sign and a giant red wing.
The new scenery is of course, a result of the brand new Honda
Powerhouse dealership better known as Honda of Russellville. With only 39
of these dealerships in the entire United States, the building seems almost surreal with its futuristic design and sheer size.
Placed in a small Arkansas town, it stands out even more.
Honda¹s have been in the River Valley for over four decades and Honda of Russellville moved to their South Arkansas Avenue location almost 30 years ago. Although the business has changed ownership several times since then, it has retained its reputation as one of the largest volume Honda dealerships in the country. In 1997, Steve and Michele Purtle took the helm and with the 10th anniversary of their ownership they have realized the ultimate success in the industry with the completion of their new 45,000 -square-foot Powerhouse Facility.
Anyone who has visited the South Arkansas location will vouch for the fact that there certainly was no shortage of inventory. This served to insure that Honda of Russellville remained in the top 10 dealerships in the country as they have been for over 20 years. The building seemed to be bursting at the seams and although the customers rarely saw anything but a smooth transaction, the Honda team could tell you that behind the scenes they were working at full capacity and then some. The time had come to expand and there were many difficult decisions to be made. Should they remodel or rebuild and to what extent?
The Purtles were introduced to the Honda Powerhouse concept a few years previously and believe that it is key to a successful dealership. Being a Powerhouse dealer means that they exclusively sell Honda products and in doing so, they are better able to meet the needs and expectations of their customers. Although there are several levels of Honda Powerhouse dealers, only those few who commit to the Honda concept facility can call themselves
Level 5 dealers.
Although the investment was huge, the Purtles knew that building the Level 5 facility was the direction they wanted to go.
It was decided that the best location for the new facility would be one of increased visibility and easier access. The property on Lake Front Drive was purchased and the lengthy design and building process began.
Utilizing a local contractor was important to the Purtles and Van Horn Construction soon became the obvious choice. Under the guidance of Chad Weisler, the project was completed on schedule and within the initial budget. Something that was certainly not an easy task for a project as large as this one.
Being a Level 5 dealer provides the customer with the ultimate Honda shopping experience. From the time the customer pulls into the parking lot, it becomes evident that customer service is the main focus of the business.
The first area the customer sees when arriving is the service department, because the design brings the service department to the front of the building.
The Purtles are proud of the new service department and consider it to be one of the most modern facilities in the entire country. New service manager Greg Rowe, brings nearly 30 years of experience in the motorcycle industry to the dealership. With his guidance, the number of service technicians has been doubled and customers can look forward to shortened repair times. Customers can also look forward to having their bikes unloaded with automatic lifts in a covered loading area. Certainly a fantastic addition when you consider how many days it has rained in Russellville lately.
Although the Honda of Russellville team has grown to over 40 members, customers can look forward to seeing familiar faces as well. Store manager Roger Shatwell began working at the dealership as a teenager who wanted to buy a bike but didn¹t have a way to pay for it. Honda of Russellville sold him a bike and gave him a job as a detail person. Little did he know that the job would turn into a career that has involved almost every department in the store and has spanned nearly 20 years.
The new facility boasts four finance offices and four full-time finance specialists to help insure that paperwork completion is faster than ever.
Keeping everything running smoothly, is Tami Pfeifer who has been with the dealership for nearly 12 years. Returning customers routinely say that Tami¹s friendly face is one of the high points of their visit.
Walking into the dealership, it is almost impossible not to notice the sheer volume of products in the parts and accessories department. Parts manager, Jeff Gately has put many hours into choosing just the right items and how to best display them. The store now boasts one of the largest selections of motorcycle/ATV gear in the state.
Customers will notice that the sales staff has grown as well. Under the guidance of Sales Manager Larry Motley and Internet Sales Manager Jonathan Davis, customers will find that it is even easier to purchase a motorcycle or ATV than ever before. But don¹t worry, Honda of Russellville has always had the reputation for the lowest prices anywhere and that has not changed. The dealership believes that their niche in the industry is their unique approach to selling which involves lower prices and higher volume. They also sell to customers all over the United States with their exclusive "Fly In, Ride Home Program."
Customers can also feel comfortable bringing their children to the dealership with the addition of the Kidzpace play area. Kidzpace allows parents to shop in comfort while their children are entertained with video gaming systems. As parents themselves, this is something that the Purtles were adamant about including in the new dealership.
But it¹s not just the children who are being entertained. Customers who are waiting for service or credit decisions can watch television in the Honda Riders Lounge or grab a snack at Starrbikes Café. That is if they can pull themselves away from the showroom for that long!
